An Analysis on the Chinese Botanical List by X - ray Diffraction Method.

Abstract
Li shih-Chen(1978) in his Chinese medical botany list distinguished Hsiung Huang (realgar) from Tz¢¥u Huang (orpiment) by their producing district and their excess and deficiency. He also classified them by their efficacy when they are used as minerals and stones in Chinese medicine. This study showed their names are fixed as follows in modern mineralogy.
1. Hsiung Huang(realgar) has been confirmed as realgar, AsA(ChinKuanshin), while Tz¢¥u Huang(orpiment) has been confirmed as orpiment, As_2O_3(Shin Huang).
2. This study showed that it is wrong that Chikuanshin is named as realgar in Japan and that ShinHuang is named as orpiment. In China also ShinHuang was once named as orpiment in the middle of forming the modern science. Now its name is changed into Tz¢¥u Huang in Chinese Mineralogy.
3. ChiKuanshin has been called realgar in Korea. China as well as in Japan, while Tz¢¥u Huang has been called Hsiung Huang while denotes orpiment. And so, the name of Tz¢¥u Huang or the name of Shin Huang has not been used.
4. This study shows that the Chinese medical stone named Shin Hsiung Huang can not be seen in the Chinese medical botany list, while it is the very Tz¢¥u Huang in a dispensary of Chinese medicine.
5. Therfore, this study made it clear that Shin Hsiug Huang clarified by X-ray diffraction analysis method is clearly regular which arees with the name of Chinese medical stone. (cf, Fig. 1., table1.)
